Johor DT striker Safee Sali is determined to be back amongst the goal after opening his account for 2015 with a sensational bicycle kick against East Bengal FC last Tuesday.
The Malaysia international was once a force to be reckoned with and was even rated as the best striker in South East Asia at one point, particularly after his exploits at the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup.
But the 31 year-old has struggled for form after departing Indonesian side Pelita Jaya FC and hasn’t been getting enough games as a result.
But Bojan Hodak praised Safee during the pre-match presser, claiming that he has looked sharp in training. That inevitably resulted in him being given a spot in the starting line-up and the ex-Selangor forward duly responded with a fantastic goal. Now, he’s keen to keep that flow going.
“I really want to start scoring goals again. That goal certainly restored some confidence in me and I will now be able to give my all during matches. Hopefully I can keep the momentum going,” he told Harian Metro.
“But obviously I couldn’t have scored the goal without my teammates. And I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to execute that attempt.”
The win also ended Johor DT’s winless streak of three games and they will next face rivals Pahang in the FA Cup. While the Southern Tigers did dispatch Zainal Abidin’s side in the Charity Shield last month, Safee intends to prepare for this clash carefully.
“The win meant a lot, especially after we struggled to win our last two Super League games. But the journey doesn’t stop here and we have to be extremely prepared when we take on Pahang this weekend,” he added.
