Dubai Open: Federer, Djokovic through to quarter finals

Defending Champion Roger Federer cruised into the quarter-finals of Dubai Open after overcoming Fernando Verdasco with a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win.

The Grand Slam record-holder was trailing 1-4 in the opening round against Verdasco before he stormed back to produce a faultless five games of attacking and wrapped up the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win in an hour.

Federer will next play Richard Gasquet, after the Frenchman defeated seventh seed Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4, 3-6.

Meanwhile, world number one Novak Djokovic also qualified to the quarters, following his victory over Audrey Golubey from Kazakhstan,

Djokovic, who is eyeing to secure his 50th tour title, defeated Audrey Golubev with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to book his spot in the last eight of the tournament, where he will be facing qualifier Marsel Illhan.
