National mixed doubles pair Tan Aik Quan and Lai Pei Jing have powered through to a good start at the German Open after demolishing fifth seeds Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongka of Thailand in straight sets.
Aik Quan and Pei Jing only needed 47 minutes to wrap up the match, defeating the world number 11 duo with a 25-23, 21-19 straight set win at the RWE-Spothalle.
The Malaysian duo booked their spot in the next round against Irish siblings Sam Magee and Chloe Magee, who managed to take down Russia’s Anatoliy Yartsey and Eygeniya Kosetskay with a 21-17, 21-11 straight set win in just 32 minutes.
“I didn’t have much expectations before coming here because I wasn’t performing, especially in the recent Malaysia Open Gold Masters final as well as the India Open last month,” Pei Jing told Harian Metro.
“That is precisely why this victory is a massive one for me.”
The Malaysian mixed doubles pair, who were once ranked as high as No.15 in the world, fell down the pecking order when Pei Jing was temporarily paired with Chan Peng Soon last year. They are currently ranked 103rd in the world.
