Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso suffered a consussion in a heavy crash during his second pre-season test that was held in Barcelona on Sunday.
The 32 year-old crashed after completing 20 laps, when he went off course. He collided with the wall on the exit of the 150mph Turn Three at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, which is one of Formula One’s most challenging corners.
The McLaren team revealed that after several hours of test and observation, the hospital results showed that the Spaniard was suffering from concussion but otherwise uninjured.
“Fernando’s accident was just one of those things that happens in testing.” Team Director Eric Boullier told BBC.
“Fortunately, he’s fine, but was concussed during the accident, which therefore required an overnight stay.”
Alonso, who has secured 32 career grand prix victories in 13 years, joined McLaren after a poor campaign with Ferrari last year.
