Defending champion Rafael Nadal has advanced into the semi-finals of the Rio Open after a straight-sets victory over fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta/
The world number 3, who was bidding to secure his 10th French Open title managed to send Carreno packing in just two hours after a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
In the opening set, the top seed missed three points against Carreno, giving him a 3-2 lead, but Nadal fought back and went on to claim it 7-5.
In the second set, Nadal managed to save two break points before moving on to book a spot in the quarter-finals.
Nadal will next face sixth seed Pablo Cuevas, who defeated veteran Albert Montanes with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in just 69 minutes.
