Professional Golf Association of Malaysia (PGM) chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid believes that national golfers Danny Chia and Arie Ahmad Irawan have a good chance of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Danny and Arie are both ranked 399th and 343rd respectively and Ahmad Sarji believes that they have what it takes to edge themselves into the top 300 and meet the criteria of qualifying for the prestigious event.
“There are 16 more Asian Development Tour (ADT) events until July 14 next year for them to improve their world ranking points before the Olympics.” Ahmad Sarji told Bernama.
“They have to work hard to win at these tournaments. I believe that if they have good points, they will stand a chance to be in the top 300.”
Besides Danny and Arie, other national golfers who’ve made it to the world rankings include Nicholas Fung (527), Gavin Green (688), Shabaan Hussin (700), Airil Rizman Zahari (718), Wilson Choo and Rizal Amin (736).
