Ivory Coast pull out of Malaysia friendly

Yaya Toure and co will not be dropping by Kuala Lumpur after the Ivory Coast FA sent an official letter, rejecting the offer of contesting a friendly match against the Malaysian national team.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) sent an invitation to the recently crowned African Cup of Nations champions, proposing an international friendly on either the 26th or 27th of March but with the Ivorians rejecting the offer, Malaysia will now play an away game against Oman instead.

“We just received a letter from the Ivory Coast FA and they rejected the offer of playing a friendly match in Malaysia,” FAM’s Datuk Hamidin told Harian Metro.

“However, Oman and Syria were interested in playing against us, and Dollah gave the green light to play against Oman. They’ve invited us to play a friendly with them on the 26th of 27th of March.”

Malaysia last played against Oman in 2010, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Al-Wakrah Stadium in Qatar. This will also be the national team’s first outing of the year, since their AFF Suzuki Cup final defeat to Thailand.
