Players under BAM feel pressured – Arif Latif

Former Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) player, Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif believes that the recent exodus of players is due to their inability of handling the pressure that comes from the association itself.

Quite a number of shuttlers have quit the national set-up in recent weeks, including mixed doubles shuttlers, Hoon Thien How and Lim Khin Wah, Ng Hui Lin, Ng Hui Ern, Ong Jian Guo and Yang Yi Lian.

Arif, who also departed BAM some time ago, believes that coaches and the management leaders within BAM apply to much pressure on the players and that it eventually starts to take its toll on them.

“Because of the immense pressure from BAM, we struggle to focus and it usually ruins our performance,” Arif told Sinar Harian.

“Particularly when we don’t achieve our targeted key performance indicator (KPI). When we don’t meet it, BAM reduces our participation in international tournaments and this ruins all the players’ spirit to improve.

Speculations are also suggestion that Tan Boon Heong could be the latest individual to depart BAM though there’s no confirmation on that matter just yet.
