Malaysian number two shuttler Chong Wei Feng believes that BAM’s decision to increase allowances for players is one that is commendable, though he claims they need to also evaluate player bonuses should individuals win a tournament.
The player allowances is premised upon the world ranking of the national shuttlers and they will earn more should they be ranked higher. However, Wei Feng believes that players will be motivated to do well and win tournaments if there was added bonus for winning tournaments as well.
“I look at the increment of allowances as BAM’s initiative in taking care of the players’ welfare,” Wei Feng told Utusan Malaysia.
“But they need to also evaluate the bonus rate for players when they win a tournament. I can’t entirely understand the direction that BAM is seeking to go with regards to this increment.
Meanwhile, 2014 Glasgow Commenwealth gold medialist Tee Jing Yi believes that BAM’s decision to increase player allowances will be extremely beneficial to the morale of players and should result in a positive change within their attitudes.
“This new plan should be praised as BAM are trying to increase the shuttlers’ spirit and motivate them to do well,” she told Utusan Malaysia.
“I feel that the youngsters in particular, will work hard to improve their performances and their world rankings.”
