Rashid Sidek: Olympic gold medal would be difficult for LCW

National head coach Rashid Sidek believes that Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s chances of clinching a 2016 Rio Olympics gold medal are slim.

The 32 year-old is currently facing potential suspension for his doping scandal but even if he was deemed to be innocent and is allowed to compete for a spot in the Olympics, Razif Sidek claims that it would be unfair to expect him to deliver the Gold medal effectively.

“We can definitely target for him to win a medal, but not the gold medal because it is hard.” Rashid Sidek told Harian Metro.

“Besides the competition being tougher, his age is catching up as well.”

The national shuttler went close on two separate instances; at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, though he was defeated by Lin Dan in the final, on both occassions.
