Khairy urges BAM to speed up Chong Wei’s doping hearing

Malaysian Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin has urged the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to quicken the hearing of Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s doping scandal, with the Olympic Qualifers coming soon.

The Malaysian shuttler has been suspended indefinitely and that has caused him to miss the All England. But with Olympic qualification at stake, Chong Wei will be eager to settle the hearing so he will be able to switch and prepare for upcoming tournaments should he be deemed innocent.

“The Youth and Sports minister has told me to speed up the hearing and I agree with him,” BAM Vice-President Datuk Norza Zakaria told Harian Metro.

“This should not be prolonged any more as there are crucial tournaments coming up, especially since the Olympic qualifiers will commence not long from now.

Recent speculations have suggested that the BWF hearing will most likely take place next week, and Chong Wei himself recently revealed that he could potentially retire from the sport should be given a two-year suspension.
