Exclusive: Liew Kit Kong delighted to be back in Malaysian football

Liew Kit Kong is officially back in Malaysian football after he was snapped up by PKNS FC for the upcoming Malaysian Premier League season.

The experienced forward was out of the local scene for a considerable amount of time after last featuring for Felda United in 2011. He went over to Japan for a three-year stint with a local club, where he coaches several junior teams.

Liew returned to Malaysia recently and with PKNS aiming to revive their fortunes following a frustrating 2014, they opted to sign him to inject experience into the squad.

“It feels really good to be back in Malaysian football and I’m delighted to be playing here again,” he told FourthOfficial.com

“Ever since I was young, I’ve always admired how Japan played football; they are absolutely excellent. I was out of action because I was based in Japan for three years, playing in a club and coaching some junior teams. Multi-tasking was certainly fun.

PKNS were relegated from the Super League last year, but this time around they will be contesting an a second division that is incredibly competitive as well. The likes of Negeri Sembilan and Kedah have all boosted their squad during the off-season, but as far as Liew Kit Kong is concerned, he thinks PKNS are well equipped to win the title.

“Either way, our coach have made it clear to us that the aim is to win the title. And I agree with him. That should be our main goal so we are going to go out there and just try to win it.”

The 36 year-old is still fondly remembered by fans of his ex-club, Perak FA. He was recently part of the PKNS squad that played a friendly match against the Seladangs and he thinks Perak should be treated as a dark horse in the Super League.

“We recently played a friendly match against them and based on what I observed, the Perak team is very fit. It’s not surprising because Datuk M. Karathu places a lot of importance on fitness.

“Their team is pretty good and they have solid foreign players as well. They are definitely capable of finishing in the Top 5 of the Super League this year.”
