17 time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is officially out of the Australian Open after a third round defeat at the hands of Italy’s Andreas Seppi. This is the first time that Federer has failed to reach the semi-finals of the competition since 2003 in Melbourne Park.
Like it or not, the defeat did come across as a massive shock, particularly after he lifted his 83rd career title at the Brisbane International recently. That being said, some claim that there were evident signs of his form entering a downward spiral, particularly after he dropped a set against Simone Bolelli in the opening round.
But kudos to Andreas Seppi as well, who was sensational throughout the round despite going up against a player of Federer’s calibre at the Centre Court; something that even he admitted was a privilege.
And Twitter as usual, produced several stunning response, from fans and critics alike!
Just when I was all excited for the long weekend, someone has to rob me off the happiness.
