In what appears to be an unprecedented result, Roger Federer has been effectively knocked out of the Australian Open by Italian Andreas Seppi, who clinched a 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-7 (5-7) win
Seppi was on fire from the offset, claiming the first two sets to send shockwaves around the world, but Federer bounced back to claim the third set, bringing hope back into the faces of all his fans.
But Seppi never looked back and kept pushing in the fourth set, which he ultimately claimed 7-6 (7-5) win to send the Swiss legend out of the tournament.
“I just tried to enjoy playing on centre court again,” Seppi said in the post match interview.
“It’s not often you get the chance to play on centre court.”
“I just tried to play my best and I did because I was playing Roger. You never feel comfortable playing against Roger, but I was focussing on my service game, I didn’t have many chances on his serve.”
This win is Seppi’s first win against Federer in over 10 meetings.
