Pahang to bank on foreign players for Charity Shield clash

Pahang FA are hoping to see their foreign players spearhead their bid to retain the Charity Shield title when they take on Johor DT on the 31st of January.

The War Elephants have retained all four foreigners in the form of Matias Conti, Dickson Nwakaeme, Zesh Rehman, Damion Stewart, and with FAM abolishing the rule that only allowed three foreign players to be on the pitch at one go, Zainal Abidin certainly believes that they would be able to leave a massive impact on the team.

“It all depends but I’m definitely banking on the foreigners to do well as their performance will have a positive impact on the team,” he told Harian Metro.

Zainal also provided updates on the injury list and it appears that Azamuddin Akil could be absent from the squad that will take on Johor later this month. However, Pahang will be boosted by the return of two key players in the form of Hafiz Kamal and R. Gopinathan; both of whom have recovered from their respective injuries.

“Alex (Azamuddin Akil) will probably not be able to play as he is still recovering from a knee injury. But besides that, everything else is on track and we will be able to field our key players who were previously injured; Hafiz and Gopinathan.

“I certainly hope we’ll be able to put on a terrific show, and that will be the benchmark for how well we can do in the league this year.”
