Terengganu FA head coach Abdul Rahman Ibrahim claims that his side will be aiming to finish in the top three of the Malaysia Super League this year, and anything beyond that will largely depend on the willpower of the players.
The Turtles are being tipped to do well in the upcoming season, particularly after they secured the signing of last year’s top scorer, Paulo Rangel. But Abdul Rahman isn’t keen on heaping pressure on his men. Instead, he insists on being realistic about their chances.
“We think setting the goals high would only add unnecessary burden on the players,” he told Harian Metro.
“Every team will be aiming to win trophies, and it’s the same with Terengganu. But it won’t be easy, especially with teams like Johor DT, Kelantan, Pahang and Felda United in the mix.
“When we set reasonable goals, it becomes realistic. As of now, we want to finish in the top three of the league. Then it’s up to the players as to whether they’re able to delight the fans with silverware,” he added.
“But I know our players can do well this year. They have what it takes, including the foreigners as well. But I can’t specifically guarantee a position in the league though I can promise that we’ll be doing our level best to improve on our finish last year.”
