Heather Watson claims Hobart International title

Heather Watson has secured her second ever WTA victory after triumphing in the final of the Hobart International Cup.

The British number one is currently preparing for the Australian Open, and she has been absolutely on fire at this particular tournament; steamrolling past most of her opponents to book a spot in the final.

But even in the final, where she was up against American Madison Brengle, Heather was absolutely composed and claimed a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 victory. That also means that she triumphed without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.

“Thanks to my coach Diego, its been great working with you,” she told BBC. “We work really hard but we also have fun.”

“When I won Osaka in 2012, it was more of a surprise,” said Watson. “But here, I feel like I belong.

“I’m obviously very happy. It was tough conditions again today, very windy, and I knew Madison would be tough – we know each other very well on and off the court, and we practise a lot in Florida.

“It really was my toughest match of the week. I was happy I stayed mentally strong and managed to get ahead and hold my nerve at the end.”
