World Number 34 Ong Beng Hee is through to the main draw of the JP Morgan Tournament of Champions after securing a hard fought win in the qualifiers.
Ong became the only Malaysian survivor in the men’s category after defeating USA’s Chris Hanson with a 11-8, 11-6, 10-12 and 11-6 victory at the Harvard Club.
The 34 year-old will now meet Egyptian Mohd Ali Anwar Reda in the main draw, who defeated Canada’s Shawn Delierre with a 14-6, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-9 win in the qualifiers.
Malaysian number 1 Nafiizwan Adnan though, did not make it through the qualifying round as he was forced to pull out from the game after just one set, due to high fever.
In the Women’s main draw, Nicol David, who recently clinched her 8th World title, will be facing Australia’s Rachel Grinham. Should the world number one win her tie, she will be setting up a mouthwatering clash against Alison Waters of England in the quarter finals.
