Neil Hawgood to assist Beng Hai with national team duties

Former Australian hockey star Neil Hawgood is set to work alongside Malaysian coach Tai Beng Hai in coaching the national squad.

Tai Beng Hai announced that they will both start working together right after Malaysia finishes its second round of the World Hockey League between the 17th and 25th of January.

Hawgood was initially appointed as the national team’s consultant, though his inception into the coaching set-up is something that Beng Hai hopes will assist them in solving their issues.

“From the start, the Malaysian Hockey Confederation has been wanting to hire him as a coach or consultant for the Malaysian squad, especially after Paul Revington resigned,” Beng Hai told Harian Metro.

“That being said, we are hoping that he will be able to give us some suggestions to help us deal with our weaknesses.”

Before being elected as coach and consultant of the Malaysian national team, Hawgood was coaching India’s women’s team. The 52 year-old is known best as the man who guided India to a bronze medal at the Incheon Asian Games in October 2013.
