British number 1 Heather Watson has earned her spot in the quarter-finals of the Hobart International after defeating American fifth seed Sloane Stephen in straight sets.
Heather managed to beat Sloane Stephens with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in just 64 minutes. The 22 year old will next meet the ninth seed, Roberta Vinci in the quarter finals.
Despite Watson’s impressive performance, the humble 22 year old refused to drawn into talking about her chances of clinching the title in Hobart as she wants to focus on her next match.
“I never think about winning the tournament. It’s a boring answer. You probably want me to say yes, but I’m just focusing on my next match” Heather Watson told the Gurdian.
“I had a tough draw in the first match and then Sloane in the second round, so I’m very pleased to get through those matches.
“I thought to myself no matter what happens in the match I’m going to stay aggressive from the first point to the last and I did that today.”
