Reigning Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is reportedly close to becoming the highest-paid driver in the sport, should he sign an extension to his current deal with Mercedes
Speculation has it that the new deal could be potentially worth around 25 million pounds year.
According to the Daily Star, Mercedes have been trying to tie him down to a new contract for quite some time now, but haven’t been able to do so. They attempted to negotiate with last season, but the 30 year-old pushed it away, claiming that he wanted to focus on winning the championship without any distraction.
That being said, it now appears that Hamilton is ready to discuss his future, and being made the highest-paid driver in the sport, certainly serves as an attractive option for the Brit.
As of now, Hamilton is in fourth spot as far as salaries of Formula One drivers are concerned, with Raikkonen, Vettel and Alonso all ahead of him.
