Kedah FA are still hopeful of acquiring the services of Gary Steven Robbat despite the midfielder’s decision to join reigning Super League champions, Johor Darul Takzim.
The talented midfielder was the subject of a major transfer fiasco in recent months, after both Pahang FA and Johor Darul Takzim announced his name in their official squad, confirming speculations on him making a U-turn on the Pahang move to sign with Johor DT.
But Kedah FA themselves have a stake in the issue. According to them, Gary has a responsibility of reporting to them upon leaving Harimau Muda, considering that Kedah is his native state. Instead, the 22 year-old opted to speak with other teams without even getting proper consent from the Canaries.
That being said, the FAM Player Status Committee will be convening on the 16th of January to discuss and derive and amicable solution to the entire fiasco; something that Kedah FA are certainly looking forward to.
“If it’s a player like Gary, who wouldn’t want him. I’m pretty sure Kedah want him as well,” Kedah FA Vice President Datuk Othman Aziz told Utusan.
“I understand that Gary doesn’t want to play for Kedah but he has to follow the rules and contribute towards Kedah or at least report for duty with us.
“But he never spoke with us. Instead, he directly went to Pahang FA and Johor DT. That’s where the problem started.
“According to regulations, he needs to return to his state of origin and can’t play for any other teams until he gets the official certificate of transfer from us.
“Either way, we’ll wait and see what the FAM Player Status Committee say after their meeting next week,” he added.
