Liew Daren urges BAM to solve coaches’ contract issues

National singles player Liew Daren has urged the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to solve all issues regarding the renewal of contract for coaches before it starts severely affected the national set-up.

Almost all the main coaches in the form of Rashid Sidek, Tey Seu Bock, Rosman Razak, Pang Cheh Chang and even Wong Tat Meng have reached the end of their contract.

Though the individuals have all been offered an extension to the contract, it’s merely a temporary one, with the extension offer running till March this year. That being said, several structural changes will also take place, with Rashid Sidek no longer being the main head coach for Singles; something that Liew Daren is certainly worried about.

“This issue will certainly affect everyone. The coaches will constantly be worried about their future in BAM, while the players will be confused as to who will be training them,” he told Sinar Harian.

“On an overall level, it’s quite visible that this is pretty disturbing so I hope BAM can settle the matter as soon as possible. If it continues, it will only affect our preparation for upcoming major competitions.

“Even if there is a new coach, we would still be slightly worried, because there’s no guarantees on whether we’d be able to adapt to their training methods. It may take some time.”
