Malaysian Hockey Confederation had their wish come true when seven teams made their way to register for the 25th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup which will be held in April 2016.
The teams registered (including hosts Malaysia) are defending champions New Zealand, Japan, Pakistan, Australia, India, and Great Britain. The quota for the event is eight teams.
“We have invited two other teams, the two being Netherlands and Germany, but we still haven’t got an answer from them. I hope we can get a reply as soon as possible,” said Chief Excecutive K Logan Raj as quoted from Harian Metro.
Logan also explained that the tournament will move on will seven teams in case the teams have decided to reject the invitation.
“With that the format of the game will be ‘round robin’, as usual,” he added.
“For MHC, seven teams is good enough. What’s important is that the championship can go on smoothly with teams of good quality.”
