Paulo Rangel edging closer towards Johor DT move?

Johor Darul Ta’azim are reportedly close to securing the signature of ex-Terengganu forward Paulo Rangel, to spearhead their offensive department ahead of next year’s Malaysia Super League campaign.

The Brazilian forward was released by Terengganu earlier this year and has been identified as the right candidate to replace Argentinean forward Lucho Figueroa, who officially retired at the end of last season.

Rumours suggest that the 31 year-old arrived in Johor Bahru yesterday and according to several local dailies, he will be unveiled in a press conference later today.

Coincidentally, JDT announced the press conference this morning, though not details were revealed on what the presser would entail.

Should Rangel sign with JDT, this would be his fourth Malaysian team, having played for Perak, Selangor and Terengganu thus far.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

Paulo Rangel is always a risk. On one hand, he is an exceptional forward and will guarantee you goals. But on the other hand, he can be problematic, as depicted during his Selangor and Terengganu stints. JDT’s goals for next year will undoubtedly expansion of their success this year and the last thing they want is Rangel causing an internal disruption. But should Rangel carry himself in the right manner, this could actually turn out to be an astute signing, coupled with the fact that Jorge Diaz will be returning to don the JDT jersey next season.

More to come…
