Legendary Malaysian bodybuilder Sazali Samad has been handed a four-year suspension by the Malaysian Bodybuilding Association (PBMM), after failing a doping test earlier this year.
The 48 year-old athlete opted to not open Sample B of the test as he accepted the suspension by claiming that he merely took a suplement product from a friend, without referring it to the National Sports Institute (ISN) prior to consuming it.
The suspension is effective immediately and it will be backdated to September 22, when the test results were initially released.
However, Vice-President of PBBM, Datuk Dr. Ahmad Badrus Othman was quick to point out that this was Sazali’s first offence, and that he was never involved in any doping scandal prior to this.
“I’d like to also inform that Sazali has never failed a doping test prior to this and was always a clean athlete while representing the country in some of the biggest competitions out there,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
