Indonesian badminton legend Rexy Mainaky has refused to rule out the option of making a return to Badminton Association of Malaysia, admitting that he did receive an offer earlier this year.
According to the 47 year-old, BAM Technical Director Morten Frost Hansen offered him the head coach role, though as far as Rexy was concerned, there was very little changes he could have made before the Olympics. That calculus, ultimately convinced him to reject the offer.
“Yes I did receive the offer. Morten Frost himself called me directly about it,” Rexy was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
“But I told him, I can’t do much in the span of eight months leading up to the Olympics. To me, it’s all about long-term planning. In Indonesian for instance, we already have plans for the SEA Games, the Asian Games as well as the 2020 Olympic Games.
“Would I join BAM in future? We’ll have to wait and see. I’m unable to comment for the time being,” he added.
Rexy was previously the men’s doubles coach in BAM until he left in 2012. He’s currently the Director of High Performance at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI)
