The underdogs, Malacca have pulled a great upset as they ultimately clinched the 53rd Tun Razak Cup Hockey Division 1 title after defeating defending champions Perak 1-0 at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, yesterday.
The goal of the match was scored by Dedy Ariyadi Jumaidi through a field goal in the 30th minute.
Malacca’s head coach, S Velappan had admitted that he had never expected the triumph as the team was largely consisted of young players.
“The success was unexpected as we have only placed our target to remain in Division 1. The squad played their hearts out and defended well,” he said as quoted from Bernama.
This is the third victory for the state after their triumph in 2005 and 2009.
