Kelantan have officially announced the appointment of K. Devan as their new head coach for the 2016 season of Malaysian football.
The news certainly comes as a surprising one, considering that the Red Warriors were being linked with V. Sundramoorthy and B. Sathianathan in recent times. Besides that, Devan’s recent record within Malaysian football, isn’t too encouraging.
After leaving Selangor in 2011, he was in charge of Johor FC in what was a disappointing stint, before moving to Felda United in 2013. Merely six months into the job, he was sacked with the Settlers struggling for form throughout the MSL season.
He went on to spend a year with Penang FA in 2014, before coaching Negeri Sembilan last year – both were Malaysian Premier League stints. But according to a source, Kelantan’s financial troubles meant that they had to lower their expectations in order to secure a financially viable option.
Besides that, the Red Warriors have also announced the capture of three new local players. Abdul Manaf Mamat has joined from East Coast rivals, Terengganu, Muslim Ahmad was snapped up on a free transfer while Faizal Abu Bakar was signed from Kedah.
