Pahang defender Zesh Rehman believes that LionsXII presence in the Malaysia Super League will be sorely missed, claiming that they added quality into the league.
Football Association of Malaysia confirmed that LionsXII will no longer be a part of the MSL next year, after opting not to extend the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between them and the Football Association of Singapore, back in 2011.
And while quality is one aspect of LionsXII that Zesh will inevitably miss, he was quick to point out that their absence would also exempt MSL players from having to play on Jalan Besar Stadium’s artificial turf.
“I will miss playing LionsXII because they forced you to work hard for a result,” he told ESPN FC.
“Despite their relative youth, they are well exposed on the international scene and always cause the opposition several problems. I think they have added a healthy rivalry in the league.
“More importantly they have become a quality team in the league and even won some trophies so they have proved that they were no pushovers.”
“But I won’t miss playing on the astro turf pitch at Jalan Besar Stadium,” he cheekily added.
During their four-year stint in Malaysia, LionsXII won the Malaysia Super League title in 2013 as well as the Malaysia FA Cup in 2015.
