Johor DT have been nominated for the AFC Club of the Year award, following their unprecedented AFC Cup final triumph of FC Istiklol last month.
The Southern Tigers became the first Southeast Asian side to win the prestigious regional competition, which is their third trophy of the year – having won the Charity Shield as well as the Malaysian Super League title, earlier in the year.
The two other teams who will be competing with JDT for the award are China’s Guangzhou Evergrande as well as UAE’s Al Ahli. Both teams made it to the Asian Champions League final, though Guangzhou eventually triumphed 1-0 after two-legs of a closely fought battle.
The AFC Annual Awards will be held in New Delhi this Sunday, with a total of 21 awards set to be given out on the day.
