Pahang handed points deduction, Selangor to replace them in AFC Cup

Pahang FA have been handed a devastating blow by the Football Association of Malaysia, after they were given a six-points deduction, dashing their hopes of competing in the AFC Cup next year.

The Elephants finished second in the MSL on 44 points this year, though FAM confirmed that Pahang FA will be sanctioned for their failure to adequately compensate Mohammed Borji after terminating his contract in 2013.

Borji appeared to have taken the case to FIFA and the governing body reportedly issued three letters to the Pahang Football Association – which received no response. There has been no official statements from Pahang FA thus far, though they are expected to issue a response, later today.

It now means that Selangor have been bumped to second spot with 39 points, while Pahang will now be tied with Terengganu on 38 points, though they will occupy fourth spot by virtue of having a better goal difference.

Selangor will also be replacing Pahang in the AFC Cup next year – making a return to the competition, after a one-year absence.

More to come…
