Malaysia Cup: Selangor players wary of threat posed by Sarawak

Selangor’s Rizal Fahmi has urged his teammates to not underestimate their Malaysia Cup quarter-final opponents Sarawak, ahead of the first leg of their tie, on Tuesday night.

The Crocs narrowly progressed from Group B as runners-up after drawing 1-1 against JDT in Larkin over the weekend and though they have struggled for consistency this season, Rizal claims that the Crocs are incredibly strong, particularly at home.

“No doubt, Sarawak are one of the strongest teams in the competition. In fact, they even managed to hold JDT to a draw in Larkin the other day,” Rizal told Harian Metro.

“They don’t know the meaning of ‘giving up’. They usually work very hard and they’ve got an excellent team spirit as well,” he added.

The Red Giants though, have a slight edge in terms of head-to-head record in the MSL this year, having beaten Sarawak in Shah Alam, before playing out a 1-1 draw in Kuching, earlier this year.

Rizal on the other hand, is having none of it. “You can’t compare our Super League results. At the end of the day, we still need to work hard, if we’re keen on winning this game,” he concluded.
