National diver Ooi Tze Liang believes that mental strength and stability will be his primary ally when the Rio Olympic gets underway next year.
The 22 year-old diver has been in fine form this year and has already secured Rio slots for two events – 3m springboard as well as 10m platform.
However, Tze Liang is now expected to be out for at least four months, as he undergoes rehabilitation for a leg injury – something that he is determined to overcome.
“I have to wait and see how the recovery process pans out. I will be following the doctor’s instruction to ensure that I fully recover in time,” he told Harian Metro.
“I’m definitely hoping to win a medal in the Olympics next year, but I can’t force myself too much. Most importantly, I’ve got to be mentally strong,” he added.
Tze Liang clinched four gold medals at the SEA Games in Singapore earlier this year, which culminated in him hailed as Malaysia’s Olympian of the Year.
