Malaysia’s junior hockey squad captain Mohammad Najib Abu Hassan believes that they are more than capable of repeating their achievement in 2013 by retaining their Junior Asia Cup title.
Malaysia are regarded as heavy favourites for the tournament this year though Najib did point out that the entire squad would have to be at their best concentration level in order to successfully defend their title.
“I think we have the ability to repeat the success of the Project 2013 squad. That being said, all the players need to be really inspired,” he told Harian Metro.
“It’s just that we have to focus in every game. We tend to get sluggish towards the end of every game and that’s something we need to address.
“All the opponents are equally difficult to beat, though we have to be especially careful against India, because they are on form at the moment,” he added.
Malaysia have been slotted into Group A of the tournament, alongside India, China and Japan.
