Malaysian badminton coach Tey Seu Bock believes that confidence is the only thing separating Chong Wei from his arch nemesis in the form of Lin Dan or even Jan O Jorgensen for that matter.
Both men could potentially be up against Chong Wei at the China Open, and Tey Seu Bock as been monitoring his training as well as form in recent days. But that being said, the experienced coach believes that Chong Wei is capable of beating anyone, if only he retains his confidence for the duration of the tournament.
“He has been training and preparing well for the tournament. His fitness is top notch and he hasn’t sustained any injury thus far. I think he can for futher in this tournament,” he told Utusan Malaysia.
“I’m more concerned about Chong Wei’s confidence level in each round because that’s what is important, when it comes to facing his opponents.
“I don’t really focus on his opponents, because to me, if he is able to sustain his confidence as he progresses in the tournament, his confidence would increase and his chances of beating the big names would be boosted,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tee Jing Yi will be facing Saina Nehwal in the second round. On the other hand, men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong will be up against compatriots Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
