For the second year in the running, the Taufik Hidayat Arena Junior Championships is back, encouraging 245 young shuttlers to showcase their skills and talent, in a competition held at the arena in Ciracas, Jakarta.
The tournament is held for 4 days, from Thursday to Sunday, and will continue providing a competition for children and young athletes as part of their mission to develop badminton in Indonesia.
Former World and Olympic champion, Taufik Hidayat, said the arena was built to welcome teenagers to build their love for the sport and further improve the quality of badminton.
“In my experience, it is important for an athlete to participate in many competitions, starting from a young age.”
“It doesn’t matter if you’re winning or losing. It’s the experience that will help someone to become a better athlete in the future,” he told the Jakarta Post.
“I hope this event would motivate young shuttlers to build their confidence,” he added.
The event offers a total of Rp 35 million in prize money.
