“We wanted to appeal to FIFA initially but after considering the details of the sanctions, it was evident that we merely had a slim chance of reducing it,” he told Utusan Malaysia.

“Hence, we decided against filing an appeal to FIFA. We received negative feedback from them, but the sanctions are not so heavy since the national team would only be required to play one game behind closed doors.

“We also have sent a letter to the Sports Commisioner but we have yet to receive any answer from them. I feel sad that this incident has attracted a lot of attention because if we eventually get punished by them, FIFA might consider it as a form of government intervention,” he added.
