National diving coach Yang Zhuliang said he is worried with the condition of Pandelela Rinong, who picked up a back injury recently.
Pandelela, who has already qualified for the Rio Olympics, missed the Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix in Bukit Jalil last week after failing to recover from her injury.
“There are other athletes who are out injured but their injuries are not too serious so I don’t have to worry about them. Pandelela is the one I’m worried about.
“To be honest, this is the first time in her career that she has revealed to me that she has a serious back pain. Throughout the years, she is a very competitive person and she would want to compete even if she has injuries.
“I’m very worried with her condition at the moment but for now she will still come with us to Australia for another Grand Prix championship this week,” he told Arena Metro yesterday.
Despite competing without Pandelela, Ooi Tze Liang, Wendy Ng Yan Yee and Leong Mun Yee, the national diving team managed to collect three gold medals and three silver medals at the KL Grand Prix.
Nur Dhabitah Sabri emerged the cream of the crop for the national side as she won two gold medals in the championship and will be a main contender for the Australian GP this week.
