Former world number one shuttler Lee Chong Wei has progressed to the second round of the French Open, while teammate Chong Wei Feng’s journey ended early.
Chong Wei was expected to kick start his French campaign on a positive note, knowing nothing but a win will ease of the pressure mounting on him, after unfortunate outings in his previous three Super Series, the recent being the Denmark Open.
And he did not disappoint, cruising past Frenchman Brice Leverdez 21-7, 21-15.
In the second round tomorrow, Chong Wei is scheduled to face the winner between 7th seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Hong Kong’s Wei Nan.
Chong Wei Feng, on the other hand, lost to Japan’s Sho Sasaki 18-21, 11-21 in the first round.
The Malaysian back-up shuttler came through a tough qualifying round, but failed to get one over the Japanese veteran player, who disposed his opponent easily.
