National bowler Rafiq buzzing ahead of Vegas World Cup

Eighteen year-old bowler Muhd Rafiq Ismail has expressed his excitement ahead of his debut at the AMF World Cup in Las Vegas, taking place from November 13-20.

Rafiq, who became the national champion earlier this March, was delighted to be picked alongside Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, and will be looking to spearhead nation’s name in the tournament.

“It’s nice to be selected for the competition ahead of senior bowlers like Adrian Ang, Syafiq (Ridhwan Abdul Malek) and others. My efforts this year has paid dividends,” Rafiq told The Malay Mail.

Rafiq’s performance have been impressive throughout the year, with he winning four gold medals at the Asian Youth meet in Macau and the Thailand Open.

He carried that fine form to the Singapore SEA Games in June, claiming three golds and a silver in the process.

On the other hand, 25 year-old Siti will be making her third appearance in the World Cup, with a timely reminder of winning a spot in the national women’s world team event in her mind.

“I was only 16 when I made my debut, and this will be my third World Cup. I hope my experience will help me do better than my previous attempts,” she said.

It is to be noted that Siti won the 27th Kuala Lumpur International Open last month, which increases her conviction to do well in this year’s World Cup.
