Datuk Ong Kim Swee has confirmed that he wants to be the new national team head coach after officially submitting his application to Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) yesterday.
Ong’s decision makes the race a lot more tighter with the likes of George Boateng, Rene Meulensteen as well as Bojan Hodak also competing for the position.
But as far as Ong is concerned, that isn’t an issue and he believes that FAM will make the decision, based on what’s best for the national team.
“I have submitted my application today (yesterday). After three matches with the national team, I saw some positive reactions from the players.
“I believe they can do really well in the upcoming games. That made me feel like I can work with them and I decided to send my application to FAM.
“The selection committee consists of experienced people, I hope they will decide for the best,” he told Harian Metro yesterday.
Ong effectively provided a respite for the national team, as they won two games this month – a 3-1 friendly win over Laos as well as a 1-0 win over Timor Leste. Both victories came in the aftermatch of their heavy 10-0 defeat to UAE last month.
