Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin showed another glimpse of his talent by bagging the Swiss International Challenge yesterday, the national shuttler’s second European title of his career.
The 24 year-old put up an admirable performance to upset third seed Lang Ville of Finland 21-19, 16-21, 21-11 in 66 minutes.
It was also a second consecutive title for the BAM shuttler, who claimed the Polish International Series last month.
“I’m happy to be winning something although the tournament is not a huge one.”
“I don’t wish to pressure myself but I do hope to reach the top 30 by the end of this year, said the 58th ranked shuttler, as quoted by New Straits Times.
There was also joy for Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, who overcame a resistant English pair in Peter Briggs-Tom Wolfenden 18-21, 21-16, 21-16 to win the men doubles title.
The national pair, fresh from their Dutch Open GP success last week, will be participating in the French Open next in hopes of qualifying for next year’s Rio Olympics.
