LCW breezes through opening round of Denmark Open

National shuttler Lee Chong Wei had no trouble in reaching the second round of men’s singles event at the Denmark Open earlier today.

The unseeded Malaysian had a rather comfortable opening round match against eight seed P. Kashyap from India, winning 21-14, 21-15 in 47 minutes.

Chong Wei will now face Wei Nan of Hong Kong for a place in the quarter finals.

After continuous setbacks in the Japan and Korea Open, where he suffered early exits, Chong Wei will be looking to redeem himself as he looks to collect points in order to qualify for next year’s Rio Olympics.

But a tough task awaits him if he manages to breeze through to the quarters, as he is scheduled to meet rival and world number 1 Chen Long.

This time around though, he started from the main draw instead of playing in the qualifying rounds, with coach Hendrawan by his side after his absence in the previous tournaments.
