“I want to make history in Rio” – Triple jump athlete Hakimi

National athlete Muhammad Hakimi Ismail is on a mission to make history as he aims to be the first triple jump athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next year.

Hakimi currently holds the national record of 16.67 meter jump in the event, registered when he won the Singapore SEA Games last June.

In spite of that, he has to record a 16.90 meter jump at least, to book a spot in Rio.

“I”ll begin participating in a few tournaments early next year, such as the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in January/February.”

“I hope to qualify early so that I will have more time to prepare myself,” said Hakimi, as quoted by Berita Harian.

The 24 year-old is now in recovery process after his back injury, and will be expected to remain under coach Victor Sotnikov of Russia till Rio Olympics.

WHAT DO WE THINK?

Among all the popular sport in Malaysia, Muhammad Hakimi has excelled in the triple jump event and is thriving towards success. He has all the right reasons to be excited for Rio Olympics, proved by the national record that he currently holds. Hakimi joins the other favorite athletes of the nation in having a chance for a medal, and he should be encouraged more as he certainly has a bright future ahead.
