Despite Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)’s decision to keep him under them for one last time until the 2016 Rio Olympics, men singles shuttler Liew Daren remains focused about his participation in the remaining competitions towards end of the year.
According to the Kuala Lumpur born, instead of panicking, he would rather keep his attention on the tournaments he is about to participate in, as 2015 comes to an end.
“I have no interest in thinking about next year,” he told Arena Metro.
“For now, all I want is to be free from injuries and boost my confidence ahead of my matches.”
Deputy president of BAM, Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria has already admitted about the changes that will be made on players under the governing body, notably names like Liew Daren and Chong Wei Feng.
However, he did explain that the decision will not be involving Lee Chong Wei’s sparring partners, or players who have already qualified for the Rio Olympics next year, putting Liew Daren and Chong Wei Feng in a safe situation for now.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
For most people, Liew Daren has reached his end. He was a kid with lots of potential, which sadly, was not utilized well. On top of injuries, his inconsistent performances have caused criticism to pile up and there is no looking back now. So BAM’s decision to wait till Rio Olympics is still baffling, but this is the last chance for Liew Daren, and other shuttlers who are looking to make an impression.
