Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) will be looking to boost the nation’s qualifying chances for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, with the return of one of their former pairs.
Della Destiara Haris is back with ex-partner Rosyita Eka Putri Sari after splitting up earlier this year due to the latter’s injury. They will be joining nation’s top women’s doubles pair Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda in competing for Rio.
Della-Rosyita have been a successful combo, reaching the final of German Open Grand Prix Gold, while Della failed to meet expectations when paired up with Rizki Amelia Pradipta in the absence of Rosyita.
“Della and Rizki should be performing well to build points for the 2016 Olympic’s qualification, but so far they have failed,” said PBSI women’s head coach Eng Hian, as quoted by The Jakarta Post.
“Every female shuttler in the national training camp has an equal chance to compete in order to grab a spot in Rio alongside Greysia and Nitya, although there have not been any eye-catching performances to convince me yet.”
PBSI is still desperate to find second-layered pairs for the women’s doubles event, while the men’s doubles have already been secured.
Indonesia will rest its medal hopes on badminton in next year’s Olympics.
