The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) have confirmed that the National Sports Day [Hari Sukan Negara] will go on as scheduled this Saturday despite hazy conditions in the capital of the country.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin earlier pointed out that the pollution index rating (API) varied across the country and it makes no sense to cancel events in areas that have low API readings.
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport, Datuk M. Saravanan also echoed Khairy’s sentiments, claiming that they have no plans of even delaying the National Sports Day, for the time being.
“So far we’ve not decided to cancel or postpone any of the events because of the hazy weather.
“We have been planning the National Sports Day for quite some time now, but the haze is something that’s beyond our control.
“We hope the weather will get better soon. We will announce the health guidelines in one or two days in this week,” he told Bernama in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He also urged all the agencies and the organizers involved to prepare alternative plans such as an indoor venue, to protect the safety and health of the participants, should things go wrong.
KBS has also requested every Malaysian to wear sports attire on the day, to show support for what will be an iconic celebration in Malaysia, for years to come.
