“No offence to Ong Kim Swee” – FAM

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM)’s decision to put out the word on the availability of Under-23 head coach post was not intended to demean the current holder, Ong Kim Swee.

FAM deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad, who is also the FAM Technical Committee chairman, said that they were just following the procedure.

He also stated that Kim Swee is encouraged to apply again to retain his position.

Kim Swee is currently guiding the national side in the World Cup qualifying matches, but is still tied under contract to the Under-23 side until December.

“It is true Ong Kim Swee’s contract is until end of this year, but we (FAM) are aware of his caliber. We are requesting him to show interest in the job at least.”

“We have not set him aside, as he is more than capable of continuing his job with the Under-23 side.”

“It’s all comes down to National Sports Council (NSC)’s decision on whether the job vacancy should or should not be aired,” said Mokhtar, as quoted by Berita Harian.
