Singapore SEA Games double gold medallist, Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah will be looking to add to her medal tally at the upcoming Putrajaya Cup, this October 9-10.
The yearly Putrajaya Cup also serves as the National Waterski and Wakeboard Championships, which the 12 year-old Aaliyah will be aiming for podium finish.
Despite her young age, Aaliyah has continued training with impressive results, and is expected to defend her women’s tricks title and grab a medal in the jumps and slalom events as well.
She currently holds the record of being the youngest-ever SEA Games medallist in history, winning it at the tender age of 11. Besides that, she is ranked 37th in the world, as well as an impressive 7th in the international U17 Girls category.
Other national skiers include Aiden Yoong Hanifah and Adam Yoong Hanifah (slalom and tricks) and wake boarders Jeff Oh and Ariana Eimer.
This year’s event is being held in conjunction with the National Sports Day celebrations, with more than 60 entries received from several nations to take part in it, including Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, France and the USA.
Besides the two-day competition, Malaysian Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (MWWF) is also organizing a “Watersports Open Day”, which allows public to have a go at waterski or wakeboarding free of charge.
